On Thursday, 11 February 2026, police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested two suspects, aged 39 and 59, in Pietermaritzburg for robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Reports indicate that on Sunday, 1 February 2026, a man in the Slangspruit area was allegedly robbed of his firearm by a person known to him.
A case of robbery[Gun has been linked to previous crime that was reported] was subsequently registered at Alexandra Road Police Station.
Members of the Pietermaritzburg Flying Squad received information about the suspect’s whereabouts and arrested him in the Bhobhonono area in Sweetwaters.
His licensed firearm, used in the robbery, was seized. The suspect informed police that he had given the firearm to a friend for safekeeping.
Police proceeded to the Pietermaritzburg Central Business District and recovered the firearm from the suspect’s friend, who is a clerk in one of the police units.
Both suspects were charged and are scheduled to appear at Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court on Friday, 13 February 2026.
