Law enforcement seized 116 counterfeit Steve Madden handbags, valued at an estimated R174 000, during a joint operation in the Johannesburg Central Business District on June 9, 2026.
The multi-disciplinary raid, which inspected two stores, resulted in the arrest of two suspects for dealing in counterfeit goods and four undocumented foreign nationals.
The bust is part of a broader, ongoing campaign by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and brand protectors to curb the illegal trade of counterfeit and contraband goods.
