According to SAPS statement: Saturday, 11 April 2026, at about 21:00 the suspect alleges that he was from his sister’s place.
When he arrived at his residence, he opened the gate while the car key was still on the ignition.
He alleges that he was hit with an unknown object on the head, and he fell down, became unconscious, and then the car was stolen.
On Sunday, 12 April 2026, at about 12:00, he arrived at Bloemspruit Police Station to open a case docket of carjacking.
The police circulated the vehicle, and on further investigation, it was found that the car was at his friend place.
A friend told the police that the suspect left the vehicle at his place after he was involved in an accident while under the influence of alcohol.
Today, Friday, 17 April 2026, the 48-year-old male was arrested(Taken to custody)and charged with perjury.
The suspect admitted during arrest that he lied to the police. He is expected to appear in court on Monday, 20 April 2026.
Free State Provincial Police Commissioner commended the arrest and said: “Opening a false case is not just a lie; it is a criminal act that wastes state resources and diverts police attention from actual victims who are in desperate need of help.
Anyone found to have lied under oath will be charged with perjury and will face the full might of the law.”
