Department of Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo confirmed that the national road is opened after fatal crash

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety confirms that a fatal road accident occurred on the N1-25 near Tobias, Waterberg District, on 19 December 2025 at approximately 12:15 pm.

A Volkswagen sedan collided head‑on with a Mercedes Benz sedan, which then side‑swiped a Toyota heavy motor vehicle.

The collision resulted in the tragic death of a 2‑year‑old girl who was a passenger in the Mercedes Benz.

Additionally, one occupant from the Volkswagen sedan is critically injured, while another occupant of the Mercedes Benz is seriously injured and one is moderately injured.

Additionally they were only two survivors (driver and another passenger) of the Mercedes Benz sustained minor injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that reckless driving, specifically dangerous overtaking, is the likely cause of the crash.

The road was temporarily closed following the accident but has since been reopened to traffic. The South African Police Service is leading the investigation, supported by traffic officials.

All injured persons(victims of accidents) were transported to Mokopane Hospital for medical treatment.

The Department extends its condolences to the family of the deceased child and reiterates its commitment to promoting road safety and enforcing traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.
