The StreetsMembers attached to KwaMaqoma SAPS acted on valuable information regarding a vehicle suspected to be transporting drugs using R63 road between KwaMaqoma and Alice on Wednesday 18 February 2026.
Police spotted the described vehicle and upon searching it, they found 60 plastic bags with mandrax tablets.
They seized a substantial quantity of suspected narcotics, including mandrax tablets, with an estimated street value of more than R1million.
The suspects aged 43 and 46 years were arrested and are expected to appear before the KwaMaqoma Magistrate Court on charges related to possession of drugs.
Further investigations are underway to determine the owner of the vehicle as they did not give a clear explanation, the vehicle was seized and a charge of possession of suspected stolen vehicle was added.
The arrest and confiscation of drugs is sending a strong message that Police will never recline in the fight against drug trafficking.
The South African Police Service urge members of the public to continue working with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities, as collaborative vigilance help in creating a safer environment for all.
