Mogalakwena Local Municipality is impressed by initiative from MEC for Transport and Community Safety

Mogalakwena Local Municipality has noted and welcomed the commitment by the Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Ms Violet Mathye, to return to the Waterberg District to engage directly with scholar transport operators.

This follows the second day of the Safer Back to School Campaign conducted within the Mogalakwena Municipality, in collaboration with Municipal Law Enforcement.

The operation aimed at promoting learner safety and compliance with road traffic laws resulted in the impoundment of 28 non-compliant vehicles.

During the enforcement operation, scholar transport operators raised concerns regarding delays in the issuance of operating permits and limited awareness of the application procedures.

MEC Mathye acknowledged these concerns and committed to returning to the district to conduct workshops that will guide operators through the permit application process and address outstanding challenges.

Mayor of Mogalakwena Local Municipality, Cllr Taueatsoala, expressed full support for the campaign and emphasized that the safety of learners remains a priority.

The Mayor urged scholar transport operators to comply with all road traffic and transport regulations to ensure safe and reliable transport for learners.

The Municipality further reminds operators that compliance requirements include roadworthy vehicles, valid operating licences, and adherence to all safety regulations, including the submission of required supporting documentation from schools and community institutions where applicable.

Mogalakwena Local Municipality remains committed to working with the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, law enforcement agencies and transport operators to ensure safe scholar transport services across the municipality.
