NDA have been allocated the budget worth 225 million

During the Budget Vote 19 presentation on 19 May 2026, Acting Minister of Social Development Sindisiwe Chikunga announced a dedicated R225 million allocation to the National Development Agency (NDA).

This funding is intended to drive the next phase of the agency’s internal turnaround strategy and directly support roughly 800 civil society organisations (CSOs) across South Africa.

The allocation forms part of a broader R302 billion total budget tabled for the Department of Social Development (DSD) for the 2026/27 financial year. The specific funding for the NDA highlights several key government priorities:

Turnaround Strategy Execution: Funding the final implementation phases to improve the NDA’s corporate governance, operational agility, and service delivery efficiency.

Civil Society Support: Channeling grant funding directly to approximately 800 community-based and civil society organisations that provide frontline social services.

Capacity Building: Strengthening the administrative and financial capabilities of poor or marginalised non-profit structures.

Poverty Alleviation: Driving local-level economic inclusion projects, focusing heavily on youth entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood generation in underdeveloped regions.

Sindisiwe Chikunga stated “An amount of R225 million is allocated to the National Development Agency to continue the implementation of its turnaround strategy and to fund approximately 800 civil society organisations.”
