Mozambican foreign national denied bail for his drugs case occurred back in 2024

#DrugTrafficking #Sentencing Plans to traffic Crystal Meth stashed in 17 containers weighing 17 Kg and valued at R4 250 000 was foiled when a Mozambican minibus was intercepted by South African Police Service members attached to Lebombo Port of Entry in June 2024.

A 39-year-old Jorge Salomao Chimene, a Mozambican national who was the only occupant in the minibus, was arrested.

The case docket was referred to the Hawks Nelspruit based Serious Organised Crime Investigation for further handling.

The Hawks successfully opposed bail as they proved the intention to smuggle the recovered drugs from Mozambique to South Africa as the drugs were concealed in different compartments, including speakers.

On Thursday, 29 January 2026, the case was scheduled for trial, and he pleaded guilty to possession of drugs. Chimene was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Seven years of his sentence was suspended for three years on condition that he is not found guilty of similar offence.
