As the country faces the endless of crime activities that occures almost every hours across each province, some people lose their lives out of those crime activities.
Amongst those crime activities occurring within the country 90.8% are related to the Firearms[illegal].
The South African Police Service has taken stance against those whom hold the illegal firearms.
Here is the statement released by SAPS:
The deployment of police members in line with the crime pattern analysis proved successful when they detained two suspects during crime prevention patrols for firearm-related charges in Manenberg.
This morning Monday, 12 January 2026 at 06:45, members attached to #operationshanela2 conducted visible crime prevention patrols in the Manenberg policing precinct when they heard gunshots in the nearby vicinity.
They rushed to the area where the sound was coming from and spotted the suspects running away from the scene. Members gave chase on foot.

The suspects started shooting at the members, but this did not deter them from continuing the pursuit.
Both suspects ran into a premises in Mcosana Street, Manenberg, where the members found them in possession of two firearms: a CZ-P07 9mm pistol with three rounds, and a 9mm pistol with one round, respectively.
The suspects, aged 18 and 39, could not provide valid licences to be in possession of the mentioned firearms and ammunition, which resulted in their arrest.
Two suspects are expected to take stand at Athlone Magistrate’s Court for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, attempted murder, attacking police members, and discharging firearms in a residential area once charged.
