Gauteng’s Department of Social Development confirmed the campaign which will take place on Wednesday 14th January on different School premises

The whole country will next week Wednesday experience the high volume of citizens going up and down.

South African learners more especially at primary and high school will be returning to their class.

Most of the learners from primary to high school will be traveling long distance to reach their education premises.

Meanwhile other’s will be traveling with bear foot and most devastating situation is that they will be crossing busy roads.

Gauteng and Eastern Cape are the most two province where the learners risks their lives to get education.

Earlier on today Department of Social Development in Gauteng revealed that MEC will run the program which is called “Back to School 2026”

Here is the statement released by Department:

Gauteng Department of Social Development MEC Faith Mazibuko will lead the Back to School 2026 programme on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, with an oversight visit to Hlabela Primary School in Ekangala and Mahlenga Secondary School in Kwa-Sokhulumi, Northern Corridor.

The visit forms part of government’s Back-to-School readiness programme to monitor and gauge the preparedness of schools, educators, and learners on the first day of the 2026 academic year.

This initiative reaffirms our commitment to learner support, strengthening education, and building a brighter future for our children.

Habelela Primary School, Ekangala at : 07H00

Mahlenga Secondary School at : 11H00

NB: It is high time the Department of Education put extra effort to make sure that learners are safe along their different journey towards their School premises.

It is also high time for those schools and municipalities that have busy roads to employ more security personnel/traffic officers to guard the children when they jump roads.
