Department of Transport and Community celebrated “Reclaiming Knowledge and Empowering Futures”

The Department of Transport and Community Safety (DTCS) marked Library Week today, 17 March 2026, with a celebration themed “Reclaiming Knowledge and Empowering Futures”, at Phamoko Towers, Polokwane.

The event attended by distinguished guests from Department of Sports, Arts & Culture, Polokwane Municipality, COGSTA, Lyceum College, Stadio Campus, Mancosa University, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Limpopo, and University of South Africa, aimed to highlight libraries’ role in fostering education and empowerment in the work environment.

Acting Head of Department, Oupa Nkanyane welcomed guests, setting the tone for a day of celebration and awareness on libraries’ importance.

LIASA President-Elect, Prof. Lefose Makgahlela, emphasized libraries’ vital role in promoting literacy, education and community development.

Makgahlela emphasized “Libraries are key to creating opportunities for employees to access information, acquire new skills, and improve socio-economic prospects.”

Employees received various presentations that encourage further[keep on improving academic] studies.

DTCS Librarian, Dikeledi Teffo stressed and highlighted the library’s foundation role in employees’ academic success and professional development in her presentation.

Dikeledi stated “Our library is a central hub providing access to academic resources, research assistance and study environments, enabling employees to balance work and academic pursuits.”

The event reinforced the department’s dedication to fostering a culture of learning and growth.
