Tourism industry has become one of the key factors that contribute positively into the economy of the country.
Apart of contributing towards the economy of the country, it also brings Jobs opportunities for the citizens.
Back in 2024, tourism directly contributed approximately 4.9% to South Africa’s GDP, with total internal expenditure reaching R779,2 billion.
It also played vital/crucial major role by creating jobs, which ranged between scale of 1 in 18 workers in 2024 (5.7% of all jobs).
Earlier on today Department of Tourism held a workshop where they are reviewing their strategy to bring more Tourists into the country.

Deputy Minister said “Tourism is about people, inclusion, and real transformation. Through strategic partnerships and initiatives, we can ensure that the sector creates jobs, supports communities, and opens opportunities for all.”
Note: In 2025, tourism contributed nearly 9% to the country’s GDP, with some estimates highlighting a direct contribution of 3.3% and an overall economic footprint, including indirect impacts, reaching approximately 10% of global GDP levels, though locally closer to 9%.
