Fight against drugs yielded better results in Freestate province

South Africa has now become one of the highest drugs abuse across the Africa as whole, as youth keeps on using drugs.

The South African Police Service and other task teams that fight against drugs have been out on the streets cleaning up the crisis.

Earlier on today SAPS have confirmed yet another successful drugs bust on the streets of South Africa.

Here is the statement released by SAPS:

The Provincial #AntiGangUnit (AGU) in Bloemfontein continues to tighten the grip on the illicit drug trade within the province. During a high-impact day-to-day operation conducted on Monday, 09 March 2026.

Members successfully apprehended four suspects and seized narcotics with a combined street value of over R130 000.00At approximately 12:00, the team conducted a targeted search of street vendors at a local shopping complex in Botshabelo.

During the inspection, two males, aged 28 and 32, were found in possession of a significant stash of narcotics hidden within their market space.

Police confiscated large quantities of Crystal Meth and “Star” Mandrax with an estimated street value of R23 000.00. An undisclosed amount of cash, suspected to be proceeds of crime, was also recovered.

Following the success in Botshabelo, the team proceeded to the Thaba Nchu CBD. While patrolling near the taxi rank, members intercepted two foreign nationals, aged 23 and 25.

A thorough search led to the discovery of a substantial consignment of drugs, including “Star” Mandrax, Crystal Meth and KAT (Methcathinone).

The estimated street value of the seized drugs in Thaba Nchu is R110 000.00. Officers also recovered an undisclosed amount of cash at the scene.

All four suspects were placed under arrest[detained at cell] and face charges related to dealing in drugs.

They are expected to appear in their respective Magistrates’ Courts in Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu soon.
