Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety aim to reduce high number of drunk and drive

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety once again executed the Phuza Weekend Operation from 6 to 12 April 2026, targeting drinking and driving on our provincial roads.

The operation yielded concerning results that highlight the persistent danger of motorists who choose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated.

During the week-long operation, a total of 33 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol across Limpopo.

The highest alcohol reading recorded was 0.97mg per 1000ml of breath, a figure that is over four times the legal limit of 0.24mg per 1000ml.

This level of intoxication represents an extreme risk not only to the driver, but to every passenger, pedestrian, and road user sharing the road.

We commend the unwavering commitment and zero tolerance approach of our traffic police officers who continue to work around the clock to remove intoxicated drivers from our roads.

Their visibility and decisive action during the Phuza Weekend Operation are saving lives and sending a clear message that lawlessness will not be tolerated in Limpopo.

Driving under the influence impairs judgment, slows reaction time, and turns vehicles into deadly weapons.

One drunk driver is one too many(responsibility start with you). We urge all motorists to make responsible choices.

If you plan to drink, do not drive. Use a designated driver, call a taxi, or stay where you are.

Let us all play our part in ensuring we arrive alive(It start with you to insure that all road sign and rules are followed and maintained).
