The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) wishes to inform motorists of a major traffic disruption in Sandton.
Katherine Street is currently closed to all traffic beneath the Grayston Drive overpass following a shooting incident earlier this afternoon.
The area has been cordoned off to allow the South African Police Service (SAPS) and relevant authorities to process the crime scene.
There is a significant police presence on-site.As we approach the afternoon peak hours, this closure is likely to cause severe delays on all surrounding routes, including:
Katherine Street (Northbound and Southbound)
Grayston Drive
M1 Highway (Off-ramps at Grayston Drive)
West Street and Rivonia RoadJMPD officers are being deployed to assist with traffic control and to divert vehicles away from the scene.
Motorists are advised to exercise(follow the instructions) patience and follow officers’ instructions on the ground.
To avoid congestion, motorists should consider using the following alternative routes:1. Marlboro Drive2. Sandton Drive3. Rivonia Road4.
South RoadThe closure will remain until the crime scene has been cleared. Further updates will be provided once the roadway is reopened.
