According to SAPS statement: Western Cape Police has maintained their job by keeping communities safe after they arrested a suspect for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition on Sunday, 08 February 2026.
Members of #OperationShanela2 were busy conducting crime prevention duties in Heideveld when they heard gunshots.
The members drove in the direction of the sound of the gunshots and saw two males running in the direction of Gugulethu, with one male having a firearm in his hand.
Source stated: A foot chase ensued, and the suspect dropped the firearm but was apprehended in NY110, Gugulethu. A 9mm pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition were seized.
The 21-year-old suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
In an unrelated matter, members of Operation Shanela II deployed in the Kleinvlei policing precinct searched a premises in Samelia Street, Dennemere, and arrested a 33-year-old male when they found nine packets containing crystal meth in the house.
The suspect faces a charge of the possession of drugs and will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court today.
